Censored Version of Indian Depredations in Utah

Hello, this is Phillip B Gottfredson, a great-grandson of Peter Gottfredson author of the book titled Indian Depredations in Utah. Today I noticed a hardcover copy of Indian Depredations in Utah selling for $499.00 published in 1969 by Merlin G. Christensen. This so called "second edition" of Peter's book is a censored version of his original. Only 100 copies of Peter's original were published in 1919, and I re-published Peter's book in 2002. Both are seen at the bottom of this page. In this "second edition" of Christensen's, many of the original photo's were removed, and racist poems, photos, and other text were added. I personally have a copy of Christensen's "second edition" shown in the photo above, and I can attest to the fact it is NOT the original work of my great-grandfather Peter Gottfredson in it's entirety. I am incensed that the added material in Christensen's version is misleading causing the reader to believe that the added material reflects Peter's opinion, and/or as being his original work, and that no clarification is to be found in this "second edition" version informing the reader that it is not Peter's original work. It is unfortunate that many copies of this altered edition are in public libraries, and in private collections today. Perhaps it was not Christensen's intention to deliberately mislead the reader, but to simply re-publish Peter's book. Regardless, it should not be regarded as Peter's original work for the reason's I have cited herein. - Phillip B Gottfredson

This is the authorized un-edited content version, is an exact replication of the original in paperback. Peter's original version was cloth bound seen in the photo above on the right. I added a new forward in order to thank those who helped in getting the book republished, otherwise this edition is an exact replication of the original. - P. B. Gottfredson a Great-grandson of the late Peter Gottfredson.
